As A Little Child Retreat Day

To be a human being is to be a child of God. – M. Bartolo-Abela

Setting a child in their midst, Jesus told his closest friends – If you want to really get what I'm all about, become like this.  Is it possible Jesus meant what he said?

As A Little Child will invite us to consider Jesus' invitation.  What is it about children that makes them so special?  How can we actively re-embody the gifts of childhood?  What is the cost of this invitation?  What is to be gained? What are practical ways to nurture the child within?

Participants will find the day to be a spacious time of opening, pondering and practicing the art of playful curiosity.  (Learn more)

Become More Mindful
So how crazy are you feeling right now?  On a scale of 1 to 10, where is your stress level?
Jon Kabat-Zinn describes mindfulness as the "presence of heart."   When was the last time you were present to this moment?  What about bringing presence of heart?  What would that look like to you?  To explore mindfulness further and to gain some hands-on tools, you are invited to join Cindy Garis next Friday, August 21 (10am - 3pm), on a back porch in Mount Gretna, PA for a Summer De-Stress: A Mindful Approach to Stress-Reduction

Journey Into Silence

Every moment of existence is suffused with the life and creative force of God. Every breath, every heartbeat is prayer. Created in the image of God, our purpose is to grow into awareness of this intimacy, this energy.  Breath and Prayer invites us to explore this intimate knowing of Divine Presence. These experiential days provide support to help us to "move the 'stuck,' needy energies that keep us trapped in our egoic selves, at the mercy of our inner demons." (C. Bourgeault)

This series of quiet retreat days offers community and support for a contemplative journey down a sacred path.  A typical day together will hold a gentle rhythm of prayer in common, sharing, brief input from leaders, and about three hours for silence and solitude. Participants in any stage of the spiritual journey are welcome, though it should be understood that this program is geared for those who are comfortable with prolonged silence and have an openness to the Christian Wisdom tradition, including centering prayer, chant, and lectio divina.

Searching within & leading with Love

Searching within & leading with Love

I recently had the opportunity to listen to the On Being episode where interviewer Krista Tippett had conversation with Mirabai Bush, the co-founder of the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society. Bush is the co-author of Compassion in Action: Setting Out on the Path of Service.  She also helped create Google’s popular employee program, Search Inside Yourself.

I kept finding myself aware of a type of cultural shift.   This was given words on the webpage describing this interview episode where they named a growing awareness of "the rediscovery of contemplative practices, in many forms and from many traditions, in the secular thick of modern culture."  Yes!

Does this mean that contemplative practices are "in"?  Hardly, but I think it does mean that there is being given more and more credit to their value.  I am so glad that through your sustaining support, Oasis has been around for over 25 years to see this place and be in a position to help others and respond to the need for spiritual practices that move us to compassion and Love.

As I listened to the interview, I also found myself grateful for the new training we are offering in Contemplative Leadership.  Certainly, it seems timely for the invitation to deepen in practice and grow in leadership.

I invite you to offer prayers for this program and all of our program participants and leaders.  Enrollments are coming in for the fall and we are excited to have you be a part of them through prayer and presence. (Look for start dates in the calendar below)

Blessings,
Cindy

New Program Year! 2015-2016 Program Guide

I cannot believe that it is already July... where does the time go?!

But with the new month, Oasis begins a new year, and with a new year brings a whole host of offerings to renew your spirit.

If you are a part of our mailing list, your hard copy of the 2015-2016 Program Guide will be on its way soon, but before that even arrives, you can access all the great information right here.

This email lists our events and happenings that will be happening soon... and you will not want to miss. You can access the full list of programs by visiting our website.

Click here to visit our Programs page

You can also access our complete Program Guide on-line.

Click to see the Program Guide right now!

We are very excited about the response that we have been receiving to all of programs.  The new Contemplative Leadership program and the changes that have been made to offer local group options to Spiritual Direction for Spiritual Guides and to our Deepening Year for Direction Ministries have been very well received.  Is this the year for you?

You are held in our prayers as you discern.

Please continue to hold Oasis, its staff and participants, its reach and ministry, in your prayers.

Blessings on your day,

Cindy
